How to tune your guitar

  1. Tap Start tuning and allow microphone access.
  2. Pluck one open string. Use Auto to detect the string, or tap a string to choose it manually.
  3. Follow the tune-up or tune-down prompt. Make small adjustments until the indicator is centred.

Standard guitar tuning is E A D G B E, from the thickest string to the thinnest. Keep the room quiet and let each note ring clearly.

A little help finding your pitch

Is the online guitar tuner free?

Yes. Standard six-string tuning is free to use online, with manual and automatic string selection, reference tones and adjustable reference pitch. There is no account or time limit.

Can I tune an acoustic or electric guitar?

Yes. Acoustic, classical and electric guitars use the same notes in standard tuning. For an electric guitar, your microphone needs to hear the strings clearly; a clean amplifier sound can help. Electric guitar visuals are an extra in the upcoming app.

Does RoTune record my microphone?

Sound is analysed on your device to detect pitch. RoTune does not record or upload your microphone audio. Tap Stop tuning to finish.

Can I tune a bass or ukulele?

Bass and ukulele tuning will be available in the RoTune iPhone app, coming soon. The free website is for standard six-string guitar tuning.

Is there a RoTune guitar tuner app?

The RoTune iPhone app is coming soon, with guitar, bass and ukulele tuning. Choose one instrument free, with a change available every 14 days, or unlock all three for unlimited switching, extra tunings, custom looks and saved instrument setups. The online guitar tuner is ready to use now.
