RoTune

Privacy policy

Updated 18 October 2026

Who we are

RoTune is provided by Laneapps Limited. This policy covers the RoTune iPhone app and rotune.app. For support, privacy questions or a request about your information, email gethin.lane@laneappslimited.com.

Your microphone stays on your device

RoTune uses microphone audio only to estimate musical pitch. Capture starts when you choose Start tuning and grant microphone permission. Audio is processed temporarily in memory, not saved as a recording or uploaded. Pitch readings are not sent to us.

Stop tuning ends capture. The app also stops capture when it enters the background; the website stops when its page becomes hidden. You can withdraw microphone permission in iPhone Settings or your browser’s site settings. Reference tones and settings remain available without microphone permission.

Information saved by the app

The app saves your tuning, reference pitch, appearance and other settings, language choice, and whether the manual-tuning tip has been shown. Paid saved instrument setups include the names you enter, their tuning and appearance, and your optional launch default.

Your free instrument choice and the date it was selected are stored locally to apply the 14-day switching interval. We do not use a server, device identifier or advertising identifier to enforce this interval. There is no RoTune account or cloud-sync service.

Settings and setups stay on the device until you change or delete them, remove the app’s data, or the operating system removes that data. Reset preferences resets settings and language; it does not delete saved setups, the free-instrument choice and date, the tutorial flag or an Apple purchase. Individual setups can be deleted in My instruments while profile access is unlocked. To remove all local data, use Delete App in iPhone Settings, rather than Offload App. Device backups are managed by Apple or your computer and may restore app data; manage those backups separately.

Apple purchases

Apple handles the optional one-time purchase and restoration through the App Store. StoreKit supplies product information and verifies purchase entitlement on your device. The app contacts Apple for store information, purchases and restoration; tuning itself works offline.

We do not receive payment-card details or send your transaction records to a RoTune server. Apple processes App Store and payment information under its own privacy policy. Deleting local settings does not erase Apple’s purchase records or cancel a purchase. Restore Purchases can recover an eligible unlock with the same Apple Account.

No advertising or cross-app tracking

RoTune has no advertising, tracking pixels, advertising identifiers, session replay or behavioural profiling. We do not sell personal information, share it with data brokers or combine your activity with activity in other companies’ apps or websites for advertising. The app includes no third-party analytics or tracking SDK. We do not fingerprint your device.

Website cookies and local storage

The tuner does not set advertising or analytics cookies. It uses browser local storage to remember your settings, language and whether you have seen the tuning tip. These values are not sent to us. Fonts and artwork are served from our own website, without third-party font or media embeds.

A service worker can store website files in your browser’s cache so the tuner can reopen offline. These files are the app’s code, fonts and images, not recordings or a history of your tuning. Local preferences have no automatic expiry; cached files are replaced when the app updates and may also be removed by your browser.

In Settings, turn off Save settings and offline files to remove RoTune’s saved website preferences and offline cache and stop saving them on future visits in that browser. The page reloads and tuning remains available online. One local opt-out value is retained solely to remember this choice. You can also clear all site data in your browser; doing so removes the opt-out too. Microphone permission is controlled separately by your browser.

Website hosting and security

Cloudflare hosts and protects rotune.app. Visiting the website sends ordinary connection information, such as your IP address, requested URL, request time and browser headers, to Cloudflare so it can deliver the site, detect abuse and diagnose failures. This is separate from microphone audio and local tuning settings, which are not uploaded.

Cloudflare also enables browser Network Error Logging for failed connections. Participating browsers may send network-failure details to Cloudflare, such as the requested URL, error type and timing. This is operational diagnostics, not advertising tracking. Cloudflare states that it does not log client IP addresses in that reporting pipeline. Its hosting and security services can process connection information separately.

No cookie was set in our normal-page check on 18 October 2026. If a Cloudflare security challenge is needed, it may use security cookies such as cf_clearance or __cf_bm to validate requests and prevent abuse. These are not used by RoTune for advertising. Security-cookie lifetimes and infrastructure-log retention depend on the Cloudflare service and configuration; see its published cookie and privacy information. We do not keep a separate copy of website visitor logs in a RoTune database.

If you contact us

If you choose to email us, we receive your email address, message and any information or attachments you include. We use these to reply, investigate your request and maintain necessary support records. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details or recordings unless they are necessary for the help you request.

Support messages are handled through our email provider. We retain correspondence only for as long as needed to deal with the enquiry, related follow-up, a dispute or a legal obligation, then delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner. We cannot remotely read or delete setups held only on your device.

Your choices and rights

We use information needed to provide the service you request, and rely on our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries and keeping the website secure and reliable for support and operational information. We comply with legal obligations where they apply. Microphone access is optional and controlled by your device permission.

Where data-protection law applies, you may ask to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, restrict its use, object to processing or request a portable copy where applicable. Contact us at the address above. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or your local data-protection authority.

Apple, Cloudflare and email services may process information in other countries under their applicable privacy terms and transfer safeguards. We do not share microphone audio, local instrument names or tuning activity with them. Information you deliberately send in a support message is handled as support correspondence.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our practices change and revise the date above. If we introduce a feature requiring additional permission or consent, we will request it before using information for that purpose.
